Agarwood grows well in red, yellow podzolic and clay sandy soil, loamy soil. Agarwood usually grows well in hill areas i.e greater than 750 meters above sea level. 

Ploughing is necessary before agarwood plantation

After a couple of ploughing weed removal process is done along with cleaning of the field.

Agarwood plants per acre – Approximately 700 to 900 plants per acre can be planted with a distance of 2.5 m x 2.5 m and 2 m x 2 m.

Dig the pits of 45 x 45 x 45 cm and feed them with Farm Yard Manure then expose these pits to the sunlight to kill insects. 

Cow dung fertilizer for plants – cow dung is one of the most important organic fertilizer that is used for soil fertility. 15 % cow dung in each pit can be added.

Coco peat – It has oxygenated properties and it is also useful to loosen the tight soil. 

Organic farming – Organic fertilizer is advisable especially in long run farming because organic fertilizer is a bit slower but at the same time they deliver the result from the root of the problem which results in better agarwood yield per tree for a long time. However, you can do the mix of chemical and organic in the beginning but you should move to the organic during the time it will give you better agarwood oil yield per tree. Moreover, agarwood is used in aromatic substances and ayurvedic medicines therefore you will not get a good price for any low quality product.
